Before the time of the great pyramids, there was a place like none other, a city of glass and metal rising from the depths of the ocean. What secrets would you keep to save your kingdom? On the Queen’s deathbed, the sonless King Rowe is force into a promise to allow his five daughters to marry for love. This is the second book I've read by this author and it is so much better then the first one. The editing was much better.

The storyline was concise without adding too much description. You got what you needed. There were questions left answered throughout the book, but the author always managed to get back to them. Well, most of them; a few were unanswered, such as why Lenni was capable of seeing visions.

I feel like this older setting was a better fit for the author. A modern world environment like "Spellchecked" felt very stiff in the author's writing. There were a few times that the writing was almost stiff, but because of the time period in history, it was easily forgiveable.

The characters were more believable. Jael did accept her fate easily, even when faced with the revealing of this whole other more sophisticated and evolved world, but she quickly adapted. She didn't have too much objection to marrying Sarik, though I wish the author had put up a bit more of a struggle. It was believable that she objected but would comply to save her clan, but she complied too easily to his 'good looks'.

I know this is a stand alone book, but I hope the author continues to write more about the series. I hope that her modern day settings will become less stiff though.

Wonderful book! I loved it! The characters and storyline there were well written and the twists i didn't expect so as for me I say bravo -)
Wow Is All I Can Say I Am In Love With This Book I Bought It And Could Not Put It Down. All I Can Tell You Is Buy The Book It Is So Worth It.
This was a great book. Very fun to read. The characters draw you in and the plot was enchanting. You become enthralled with the story and its hard to put down! My only complaint is that i wish it was longer! lol
I went to read this story thinking a whole different thing. I was surprised that I actually enjoyed the variations of the characters. The way she tells several stories (of the characters) not just one.
This is a fun read! There are so many things I enjoyed about this story.
The characters are likable and interesting, and there are a lot of characters. Some get obscured in the background, but the author does a great job at making most of them come to life and be memorable. I especially liked Jael and Sarik and their storyline.
I liked the two different worlds; one is very modern and the other much more primitive, there is reasonable explanation for the differences and it adds a nice layer to the story.
It is an entertaining voyage and I recommend it to anyone who reads fantasy/mythology/paranormal romance.
I look forward to more stories in this series.
I really loved the ideas that were included in this novel. I enjoy fantasy and paranormal fiction, I enjoyed the idea of bringing mythology into the mix. However, I did feel that the novel could have and should have been fleshed out a bit more. For instance it skims over the references to Norse mythology and in general does not explain how all of these different races came to be on Earth together, why Atlantis was truly there in the first place and why it was leaving. I enjoyed the characters but thought they too could have been more detailed. I was left wanting to know why Lenni has powers of any kind and why Jael's parents chose to conceive her in the way that they did. At first I thought the author was going to leave the door open for more novels, but it ends with an epilogue that closes that door for the most part. My rating is actually about a 3.5.
Rating 3.5 Stars!

This book is a mythical science fiction thriller with a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Ms. Powell has interspersed several worlds with various eras, and at first, it was quite challenging for me to keep it all straight. Told in third person by several different characters--all of them seemingly consumed with their own affairs--it was nice how C.G. pulled it all back around, but the book's ending still left me with a few unanswered questions, so I'm assuming there may be a sequel. While I wouldn't say this book is a page-turner, it surely still held my attention and entertained me with an array of emotions as I read along, which is something I think a book must do for its readers. Ms. Powell has a great writing style that flows along nicely and I only encountered a few grammar errors. I would recommend this to anyone that's looking for a fresh sci-fi/supernatural fiction story.
